Volunteers from Urban&Civic took time out of their day to help the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey get ready for its new season, which starts tomorrow (March 16).

Urban&Civic is the master developer team delivering the new community at Waterbeach.

The team donned their overalls to redecorate the lobby area and toilets, help with dusting and cleaning after its winter closure, and carry out weeding and garden maintenance.

The support provided will allow the museum staff and volunteers to focus on caring for the collection and running the museum.

Museum Manager, Sarah Michael, said: “It was a fantastic day! The Urban&Civic Waterbeach team achieved so much, and we're absolutely delighted they got everything we needed done and more.

“I hope they enjoyed it too! Corporate volunteer days are really important for the museum and abbey, as the tasks these teams can achieve in a single day would take us weeks to coordinate around our other duties.”

Urban&Civic’s volunteer initiative gives all employees three days a year to actively support a charity of their choosing.

The Waterbeach team already has strong links with the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey, having exhibited the latest archaeological finds from the development there, and felt they could pull together to make a real difference.

Paul Mumford from Urban&Civic, said: “The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey provide a wealth of local history and interest, and has a special relationship with Waterbeach having been connected by a historic causeway, which we are planning to re-establish as part of the development.

“With some new team members joining as the Waterbeach team at Urban&Civic grows, the volunteer day was a great way for everyone to connect with this very special place and to make a difference for one of our key partners and neighbours.

“It was a long and slightly chilly day, but the team was thrilled with what we achieved!”
