A response officer based at Ely Police Station was ‘pleasantly surprised’ after flowers were left for him on his vehicle’s windscreen on Sunday (February 5).

The officer was doing some crime enquiries at Sainsburys, and when he returned to his vehicle, the small gift was left for him to find.

Attached to the flowers was a note which read: “Dear stranger, here is a gift from me to you as a reminder that things do get better.

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “The job that we do and the effort that we put into it is not always appreciated.

“People are quick enough to criticise the police when they feel that we are not doing something right, so we really appreciate it when someone goes out of their way to thank us.”

They added: “We are only human, we do make mistakes, but we will always do our best to serve our community.

“Thank you to the anonymous donor.”
