A charity Moon Row organised by the Isle of Ely Rowing Club raised thousands of pounds for Breast Cancer Research.
The row involved two of the club’s ladies’ crews rowing more than 26 miles in the dark in windy and cold conditions.
Their efforts raised almost £3,500 for Breast Cancer Research.
Event organiser, Lynda Haynes, said: “I was absolutely staggered. This amount is more than three times my original target. It is well worth all our blisters and sore limbs.”
And there was more good news for the club at the weekend as it launched a brand new eight.
During its 10-year existence, the club has often had to make do with hand-me-down equipment. Now, through its own fund raising efforts and the generous assistance of two local firms, it has been able to buy a new eight.
The boat was launched for its maiden outing by the managing directors of the two donor companies: Andrew Moss, of Horizon Retail Marketing Solutions, and Mark Haynes, of G’s Mushrooms. The new boat’s first competitive action will be in the Cambridge Bumps, which take place from July 22-25.
