Jordan Gill was in devastating form as he stopped Michael Stupart in the second round to clinch the vacant British Masters bronze light featherweight belt on Saturday.
Cheered on by a passionate home crowd at the Bushfield leisure centre, Peterborough, the Chatteris boxer made light work of his Scottish opponent, who had no answer to his quick hands and dazzling footwork.
Seconds into the second round, Gill caught Stupart with a left hook which left Stupart reeling.
Gill, sensing the kill, unleashed a barrage of punches which left referee Robert Williams with no choice but to stop the fight after 47 seconds of the round.
The 19 year-old is now unbeaten in nine bouts, the last two having lasted a combined four minutes 23 seconds.
Gill said: “Everything went to plan. I don’t think I got hit once, so you can’t do better than that.
“I knew Stupart likes it when you go toe-to-toe with him so I took away his strength and out-boxed him.
“I found my range very quickly and the referee made the right decision to stop the fight when he did.”
Gill was thrilled by the support he got from his legion of fans who made the short trip from Chatteris to cheer him on.
He said: “It was brilliant. I could not believe the amount of support there. Before the fight I asked the fans on Facebook to pick my entrance music (they chose the Full Monty) but it was so loud in the arena I could not really hear it.
“It was a brilliant atmosphere, which made my night.”
Gill will be back in training tomorrow and hopes to step back in the ring in the next six weeks.
He said: “I’m going to get back in the gym, train harder than ever and work on cutting out every little mistake. With the people I’m training with, I can’t go wrong.
“I’ve made a dramatic improvement since I turned pro 18 months ago and my strength and conditioning will only get better as I develop.
“I would like to thank Connett Cable, Jordan Fitness and Chatteris ABC for bringing me through the ranks.”
