Wisbech Town striker Harry Limb has signed for Premier League side Burnley.

The 17-year-old has been snapped up by the Premier League side and penned an 18-month deal with the option of an additional year at 9am this morning (Friday February 24).

Limb was scouted by Sean Dyche’s men earlier this year and travelled to the club’s Gawthorpe training ground a fortnight ago. He then scored in their development side’s 4-0 win over Barnsley last Saturday and was offered a contract this week.

Limb netted an impressive 22 goals in 40 appearances for the Fenmen after signing from Boston United last summer, and was subject to interest from other clubs including Swansea City - who he trained with earlier this month - and Leicester City.

It is also understood that Limb turned down offers from Football League clubs - believed to be Peterborough United and MK Dons - to sign for the Clarets, who are currently 12th in the Premier League.

He will link up with Burnley’s development side this weekend and is expected to make an appearance in their game against Sunderland on Monday.

Wisbech boss Dick Creasey said: “We had two or three other Football League clubs that wanted his signature.

“But at the end of the day it was Harry’s decision and everyone at the club wishes him the very best for the future.”

Wisbech haven’t received a fee for the transfer as Limb was a non-contract player, but Burnley have “made a contribution” to the club according to Creasey, and will be sending a team to the Elgoods Fenland Stadium to play a pre-season friendly in July as part of the deal.

Limb rose through the youth ranks at Boston United and was tipped to break into the Pilgrims’ first team after impressing manager Dennis Greene, who asked him to sign first team forms on his 16th birthday in August 2015.

His shot at a first-team place never materialised and he was dual-registered with Holbeach United in the UCL and later signed for Evo-Stik NPL Division One South side Loughborough Dynamo, before joining Wisbech in July last year.
