Ely Tigers met second from bottom placed North Walsham IIs to the Cambridge Commodities Park on Saturday afternoon hoping to keep the pressure on the leading pack.

The game got off to a bright start with Nathan Brookes passing the ball through hands, eventually finding captain Lory Martin crossing the line to score, with Jake Alsop adding the conversion points.

The visitors soon levelled up the scores as they scored a try, breaking free down the wing to score, with the conversion added.

Tigers were soon to regain the lead, as Jordan Barnes crossed the line in the corner, leaving a difficult conversion kick, which Alsop was unable to add to the total.

Tigers started to get a foothold in the game, with Matt McCarthy picking up the ball to score under the posts, the bonus point try was a carbon copy of the McCarthy’s try, with Matt French scoring under the posts, as Tigers lead 26-7 at half time.

First try of the second half, came as Ely won a line-out ball out on the left, passing across the field to find Alfie Ramswell on the wing to score, but conversion missed.

Ely forwards continued to push Walsham back as Ricky Neale dived over to score, with the conversion added.

As the game drew to a close, Ely won another line-out close to the Walsham back line, a strong maul pushed the visitors back, they managed hold Ely up only briefly as Tigers release the ball to the left finding McCarthy to score.

With Alsop off the pitch, McCarthy took over the kicking duties but he watched on as the ball cannoned off the post. The game came to a close with a 43-7 win for Tigers.

This coming weekend, Tigers are once more at home as they play Ipswich YM in a rearranged game from earlier in the season
