Ely City vs Mildenhall Match Report

A fine and mild day greeted the visit of Thurlow Nunn league leaders Mildenhall to the Demcom Stadium on Saturday, December 16.

Ely named a strong line-up with Jack Friend and Dan Brown leading the line.

The first effort on target of a tame first period was by Dan Brown, that forced a smart save from Pope in the Mildenhall goal.

After half an hour Ely should really have gone ahead after a flurry of chances from a corner.

Mildenhall looked calm in possession but lacked any urgency in pushing forward, the half ended goalless.

Just into second half, Ely crafted the best chance of the game, a flowing move started by Louis Jenkins fed Charlie Castle who found Jack Friend, allowing a shot to be fizzed across the face of goal but sadly going wide.

Ely lost a centre back to the sin bin for 10 minutes for dissent, Mildenhall had a forward suffer the same fate in the first half.

A surging run from Hida leads to a decent effort from Brown.

On 75 minutes, Mildenhall broke the deadlock after a corner was deflected into his own net by an Ely defender. ELY 0-1 Mildenhall

And on 83 minutes, Mildenhall put the game to bed, another ball into the danger area found Jarid Robinson with the finish, a costly 10 minutes for Ely.

85 minutes gone and Dan Brown found the net from inside the area with a smart finish.

Brown seems to be finding his feet at Ely now and the consensus amongst the fans was that this was his best performance since returning.

There was a little bit of excitement at the end as Ely keeper Congreve went up for a late corner and then dropped back not to his goal but to play in midfield, it certainly got the nerves a jangling in the stand.

So final score Ely 1-2 Mildenhall

Not a lot between the teams really, 175 were in attendance.
