THE Blitz was brought to life at Ely Museum as part of a Second World War-themed activity day.
As well as learning all about the principles of ‘make do and mend’, in which youngsters were shown how to darn socks and sew on buttons, there were also demonstrations in knitting and French knitting.
Samples of vinegar cake, mock banana and other wartime ‘delicacies’ were handed out for visitors to try and they were also able to make a small Second World War toy to take home.
There were talks on rationing and foods eaten during the way and demonstrations led by Ann Jarman from the Old Fire Engine House restaurant in Ely.
The day was just one in a series of summer holiday events being hosted at Ely Museum, in Market Street, during the holidays.
