A video of a burglary victim has been released by Cambridgeshire police to highlight the traumatic effect a burglary can have and how it can be prevented.
The video is the latest addition to a suite of tools being launched as part of Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s Get Closer burglary campaign, running throughout April.
The video aims to demonstrate the impact and long lasting consequences a burglary can have on a family, and how preventable it is by improving home security, much of which is simple to install and relatively inexpensive.
Communications Officer, Diana Waterer said: “The video highlights from the perspective of a victim the short and long term traumatic impact that having a stranger in your home and stealing your personal belongings can have on a family, especially children.
“The hope is that this visual and emotional piece will be a much more impactive way of getting the message across to homeowners.”
The video is just one of a number of tools being rolled out during the campaign, to encourage people to take home security more seriously and to understand how some simple and relatively inexpensive home security measures can reduce their risk of being targeted by burglars.
