VIDEO: From potato seed to deep fat fryer - film traces the story of a chip

A film is released today marking the journey of the potato as it makes its way from a humble seed to the deep fat fryers of a chip shop.
The film was made possible thanks to an Ely firm joining up with other key businesses in the chip shop trade.
Isle of Ely Produce joined local farmer Mark Gilbert, of J Gilbert & Sons to make the video.
Oliver Boutwood ,Isle of Ely Director, said: “The journey of the potato from seed (often from Scotland), through the planting process, then storage, sampling,grading and off to wholesalers is an interesting story.
“This journey will stimulate, educate and hopefully lead to all fast food outlets to think about the freshness and traceability of the food they serve”.
Mark Gilbert said of the film: “By showing what we have to do to get the potato from field into the shop I think we will educate the way people start to think about the whole process, which is a good thing.”
The film will hopefully be premiered in Berlin at Fruit Logistica, the leading trade fair for the international fresh produce trade in February.
Other partners involved with the project include Drywite, KFE, Potato Council & wholesaler W.M. Fraser.
Stu Baker from the Potato Council said: “The finished film is a credit to the partners involved, we are looking forward to using it in 2014 as part of our exciting marketing plans.”
The film will be shown in chip shops across the UK as well as local schools and other trade shows and platforms.
