Two men from Wisbech who walked through the town carrying knives sentenced by magistrates in Kings Lynn

Two men have been given community sentences after admitting carrying knives in a public place.

King’s Lynn magistrates heard Callum Coomber, 18, and Ryan Bradley, 20, were stopped by police walking through Wisbech in the early hours of February 14.

Susanna Chowdry, prosecuting, said officers noticed Coomber, of Holmes Drive, Wisbech, had a bulge under his coat. When they searched him, they found he was hiding a bag containing a torch and a hacksaw.

Miss Chowdry said he also had a wooden-handled knife with a 5ins blade hidden up his sleeve. She added Bradley, also of Holmes Drive, Wisbech, had a folding knife in his coat pocket, with a 3ins blade.

Both admitted possessing a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place.

Andrea Clark, defending Coomber, said it was his first time before a court and he now realised the seriousness of the offence.

Representing himself, Bradley told the bench that he would comply with any order made by the court, adding: “I don’t plan on re-offending.”

Both were given 12-month supervision orders, including sessions totalling 24 hours at an attendance centre. Both were also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £40 costs, and ordered to forfeit the knives for destruction.
