MORE than £65,000 has been allocated to community groups and clubs in the latest round of grants handed out by East Cambridgeshire District Council.

At the council’s monthly community and environment sub committee, councillors agreed funding for three projects from the East Cambridgeshire Community Facilities Section 106 Fund.

Those set to benefit are: St Andrews Swimming Pool Association, which will receive £55,000 to help with the development of a new indoor swimming pool at the primary school in Soham

St George’s Church Tower in Littleport will receive £6,000 to help with repairs its crumbling tower.

Littleport Parish Council will receive £5,000 to help with the refurbishment and reguilding of the St George’s war memorial clock face.

Councillor Richard Hobbs, chairman of the community and environment sub-committee, said: “We hope the money which has been allocated will make a real difference in the three communities from helping people to become fit and healthy to restore pride in local buildings. I look forward to hearing how these projects develop in the weeks and months to come.”
