The A10 near Ely closes after a lorry and a tractor are in collision

A lorry ended up deeply embedded in the undergrowth off the highway and a tractor trailer was seriously damaged in a collision on the A10, near Ely.

The incident, happened on Tuesday April 11, at Stretham, shortly before 9pm, and resulted in the A10 being closed.

The lorry driver had slight injuries.

A spokesman for East Cambs Police said it was: “Dramatic images from the A10 at the Lazy Otter marina.

“Thankfully both drivers were able to walk away from their vehicles.

“The forty-four ton lorry was abandoned over night to be recovered in the hours of daylight.

“The cab of the vehicle was left in the river with a tree stump embedded in the front axle.

“The following day (Wednesday) saw our partners in the Highways Agency working with contractors for approximately four hours to extract the massive vehicle.”

Special Constable Tom Howard, who attended the incident, added: “There was tremendous work from the fire service and the ambulance service responding to this incident.

“This is one of those types of incidents on the highway that requires a full emergency service response because it could have been an awful lot worse.”
