Year 11 pupils at Witchford Village College were able to learn about the world of work, understand the power of debate and plan for their future this week, thanks to the new Youth Enterprise Forum.
The Forum has been developed by East Cambridgeshire District Council and aims to bring together young people, businesses and partners to help raise awareness of the local opportunities, world class businesses and ways to work in the district.
On the day, 140 students experienced five different themed rooms hearing from business leaders and career specialists on topics ranging from apprenticeships to practical CV/interview tips. They also learnt to debate with Councillors from East Cambridgeshire District Council.
Councillor Tom Hunt of East Cambridgeshire District Council, who helped create the initiative, said: “We all had a fantastic time at Witchford Village College. The pupils had the chance to speak to some of the best companies in the district and understand some of the demands and challenges you face when you begin a career. We also had great fun with the various debates we had involving members for the District Council and the young people.”
The companies and organisations involved in the day were: Shearline, Mitchell Instruments, Forces Recruitment, Ely Job Centre Plus and Cambridge Regional College.
