Stable burglaries in Fen villages prompts security warning from police

13:59 03 January 2014

Stable owners in the Fens have been urged to pay extra attention to security after two burglaries.

Thieves targeted equestrian equipment at stables in Basin Road, Outwell, and West Drove North, Walton Highway.

In Outwell, thieves forced a padlock to a portable building before carrying out an untidy search.

A bespoke pony trap valued at £200 was stolen from inside and efforts were made to steal a small generator which was removed but left on the field, suggesting the suspects may have been disturbed.

In Walton Highway, an insecure stable was entered and four saddles and two bridles were stolen.

Thieves also stole two traps, however these were recovered after being left behind on the field.

A police spokesman said: “Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area around the time of these incidents to come forward.

“Stable owners are being encouraged to review their security following these incidents.”
