A teenager from Soham is believed to have been among those injured in a hit-and-run incident in the centre of Cambridge on Friday.

Officers had attempted to stop a blue Fiat Punto in Hills Road at 11.52pm on Thursday, but the driver sped off.

The vehicle careered off the road a short distance later, at its junction with Station Road, mounting the pavement and colliding with four teenagers.

A 17-year-old from Soham, and two other boys, also aged 17, suffered serious, but not life-threatening, leg injuries and were taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, for treatment. A teenage girl was also injured.

All four were celebrating after collecting their AS Level results from Long Road Sixth Form College.

The occupants of the Punto made off from the scene on foot.

A 43-year-old man from Cambridge has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and was taken to Parkside Police Station.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace any other occupants of the vehicle.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Anyone with any information should call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

Yet again we read of another bad accident on the A1101. I have only lived in the area since March this year and I regularly use this road. I love living here but the one thing I soon realised was the appalling standard of driving around here particularly on this road.

The City of Ely Council would like to thank the following businesses on Lancaster Business Park who donated prizes for the City of Ely Council’s Christmas Lights tombola stall: Eazipay, Advanced Aircraft Training, Direct Fruit Ltd, Tree Tops, Endless Creations, Team Sprayers, Jaguatek, Independence, Witchford Lighting Centre and Stock Shop.

I have never liked pantomimes very much, but have now changed my mind.

I so agree with Andrew Moore and have tried to raise the issue of Christmas lights with other councils.
