A Soham “survivor” of breast cancer shared her story whilst raising more than £600 for charity by holding a ‘Wear It Pink’ day.

Debbie Hitchings, who found a lump the size of a large egg when she was showering, was joined by four of her friends and many supporters buying raffle tickets and donating as she held a stall at the Twenty Pence Garden Centre this morning.

Despite having a target of £300, Debbie - who also took her fundraising efforts and collection bucket to the BP garage in Soham earlier this morning - had already raised £225 after the first three hours of the fundraiser.

Debbie said: “It’s something you don’t think about until it happens to a friend or family member.

She thinks that raising awareness is just as important as money for research because breast cancer isn’t talked about enough.

Among the 100 raffle prizes, which were donated by Debbie’s family and friends, was jewellery, cakes, body washes, wine and chocolates.

Debbie added: “I’d like to thank all of my friends and family who have been so kind with their donations and support, the owners of Twenty Pence Garden Centre for inviting me to hold the fundraiser, and all of the local companies who donated prizes including Scampers pet shop, Simpson’s, Asda Soham, Emma and Co - who coloured my hair for me as a donation.”
