Ely Squadron submitted an application for a grant to charitable foundation ‘There But Not There’ who aim to recognise those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of their nation.

The competition for this grant of ten “Tommy Silhouettes” saw hundreds of applications from organisations and community groups across the UK.

Last week, the squadron were informed by email that they had been successful for the silhouettes, fully funded by The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.

It read: “Remembered and Youth United are pleased to announce that you have been successful in your application for 10 ‘There But Not There’ Silhouettes, fully funded by The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. We look forward to seeing the installations and Remembrance events you will be holding over November.”

John Donoghue, from Ely Cadets, said: “We just received the most exciting email.

“The cadets at Ely squadron didn’t expect that they would be so fortunate to win these ten moving tributes to those brave servicemen and women who gave their lives in our defence.

“The cadets plan to make the most of these Tommy Silhouettes this November to recognise and remember the fallen and commemorate the end of the First World War in this the year of the RAF’s 100th Anniversary.”
