The Dean of Ely and the Hereward Rotary Club answered the question “What use is a cathedral” this week in support of Ely’s ‘Fund a Physio’ charity.
As part of the rotary club’s fundraising for the charity, the dean held a talk in the Bishop’s House about the history of the cathedral.
The Fund a Physio charity, part of Children in Distress, works to help handicapped children in Romania who have been abandoned and receive little or no state care.
Ely Hereward Rotary Club chairman, Christine Gascoigne, who chose Children in Distress as her charity for the year, said: “I wanted something international to go alongside the local charities we support.
“The children suffered terrible mental and physical distress in the conditions they lived in, in Romania.”
The charity sends volunteers to help the children as well train new physiotherapists and occupational therapists in Romania.
Mr Gascoigne said the cub will continue to raise money for the charity throughout the year.
