A resident who lives on the High Street and did not wish to be named, said she heard noises and described the incident as terrifying.

“I heard everything. There were voices and a loud bang,” she said.

She added: “I was really worried for my friend as it was so near to her. I saw the flames and came out of the house into the street, I shouted to people if the fire service were called and they said yes and the police were there.”

A staff member at Londis, who also did not want to be named, said the One Stop had only been refurbished a few years ago.

“You just have to protect yourself as best you can but sometimes you cannot stop them.”

It is believed the old Post Office was targeted four or five years ago and the Londis was targeted more than 12 years ago.

A customer, who has lived in the village for 53 years, said it was dreadful for the village and the shop owners.
