Cambridgeshire police confirmed this morning that investigations into the sudden death of a woman in Ely had determined that there was no foul play.

A team of forensic investigators joined officers at a property in Lisle Lane shortly after 3pm on Friday at the request of ambulance crews.

Officers remained at the scene throughout Friday and remained on scene into Saturday, speaking to neighbours of the woman and carrying out further investigations.

A spokesman for the constabulary said that their investigations had not revealed anything suspicious and the matter would now be dealt with by the coroner.

She said: “We were called by the ambulance service at just before 3.10pm with reports of a sudden death of a woman in her 40s at a property in Lisle Lane, Ely.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and the matter has been passed to the coroner.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 3pm to reports of a woman in her 40s who had fallen down a flight of stairs.

“An ambulance and paramedic officer were dispatched to the scene but the woman was sadly pronounced dead on their arrival.”
