A member of the public called police after her card was not returned from an ATM at Barclays, in Parsonage Lane, at 6.30am on Wednesday (March 6).

She spotted a suspicious man loitering nearby and gave his description to officers who arrested Alin Al-Badi nearby.

A skimming machine was also discovered on the cash machine.

Al-Badi, 32, pleaded guilty to possessing an article for use in fraud and was jailed for three months at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (March 7).

PC John Bunyan said: “The member of the public showed great public-spirit to call police with her concerns and give a description of Al-Badi who was nearby.

“We would urge people to remain vigilant when using cashpoints and to report anything suspicious.”
