Police hunt after call claiming teenage girl might have been taken against will

A police hunt has been launched to get to the bottom of a call claiming that a teenage girl might have been taken against her will by the driver of a white van.

“We took a single call relating to a sighting of a girl who appeared to be picked up in a white van when the caller felt she did not want to go,” said a police spokesman.

East Cambs Police has appealed for witnesses following the incident in Brewhouse Lane, Soham, yesterday at about 4pm.

Police attended the scene and have conducted house to house enquires. The girl is described roughly 13-years-old, white, with medium length brown hair.

The spokesman added: “At this time there is nothing to suggest that any criminal offences have taken place and no girls matching the description in the county or surrounding area have been reported missing.

“However, we are keen to hear from the driver of the white van to establish what may have happened.”

The van is described as having an A5 sized GB sticker on the side.

Police say there will stay on patrol in the town today and officers are liaising with local schools.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact police on 101 quoting CC-01022018-0277.
