A group of travellers persuaded by police and council officials to move from Ely – twice in 24 hours – tonight arrived in Littleport.
Police arrived a short time ago at the illegal encampment at Littleport Leisure Centre where there about 10 vans.
A leisure centre spokesman said: “Please take extra care when visiting the leisure centre and school campus over the next few days as we have some uninvited guests on our field who are driving along the pedestrian/cycle way. “Please take care.”
Earlier East Cambs police reported that they had resolved removing the travellers who arrived yesterday at the green space next to the Ely leisure village underpass.
East Cambridgeshire Council also got involved and their spokesman said: “In conjunction with Policing East Cambridgeshire, a direction to leave under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act has been issued to the unauthorised encampment, who has since vacated the area.
“The area will be assessed and cleared by council officers and East Cambs Street Scene.”
However the travellers only moved down the road to Ely City Rugby Club and parked up on the main pitch.
Club officials said that to gain access the travellers had broken and lock and a fence.
A rugby club spokesman said: “We can confirm that our ‘guests’ have now moved on. “Thank you to the police and the council for their swift action.”
