Slimy spaghetti worms, cardboard caterpillars and clay creatures proved a bit hit with youngsters at a new messy play group last week.
Crazy Crafts, set up by Little Downham childminder Helen Silvester, attracted more than 40 children to its first session at the village hall last Thursday.
The kids learned about minibeasts including insects, spiders, beetles, bees and butterflies through numerous activities, including painting, sticking, modelling and messy trays.
Mrs Silvester decided to set up the group after seeing a gap in the market when Ely-based Sticky Kids recently stopped.
She said: “It’s something I knew was really popular and that Little Downham was lacking. A lot of parents don’t like to have messy play in their own homes – but the children love it.
“It’s important for learning and each week, we have a different theme. We provide aprons and the children wash their hands at the end – and the best part is that I clean up all the mess.”
Her children, William, three, and Heidi, two, also took part in the fun.
Crazy Crafts runs at Little Downham Village Hall from 10am to 11am each Thursday and costs £3.50 per child plus £3 each for additional siblings.
