AJ Lee Developments is seeking permission from East Cambridgeshire District Council for four flats, three detached homes and 14 semi-detached homes on a parcel of land to the north east of Back Lane.

According to the developer, the new homes will be “redolent of the best traditional local vernacular,” and will “reflect the position of Littleport in the settlement hierarchy”.

Agents acting for AJ Lee told the council: “The layout is straightforward and traditional in nature. It has been designed to minimise impact on neighbouring interests and to avoid overshadowing, overlooking, loss of privacy and dominating impact whilst providing appropriate amenity.

“The application has been bespoke designed in response to the pre-application consultation and reflects the best of the character and appearance of the locality.”

A consultation event outlining the plans was held in the village at The Barn, in December but the plans have already caused concern among neighbours of the site.

In consultation with the district council, Robert and Elaine Lee said: “We have concerns with this proposed development, mainly the access to the proposed site and the fact that it is proposed to erect 21 new houses from one to four bedrooms in size.

“This will generate a heavy extra load of traffic into this small lane, we have no footpath and many properties do not have enough off-street parking.”

And Richard and Karen Pring added: “We are all very upset and worried about the effects on the enjoyment of our properties and safety issues around increased traffic that will impact not only on ourselves but also the regular pedestrian traffic.”

A decision on the plans is expected within the next eight weeks. To view the plans, or to have a say, visit www.eastcambs.gov.uk
