Students from King's Ely school put maths skills to the test

More than 50 King’s Ely students won awards in this year’s Intermediate Maths Challenge.

Over 200,000 school pupils from across the UK took part in the competition, which is organised each year by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT).

King’s Ely students won an impressive 21 Gold awards, 10 Silver and 25 Bronze prizes this year.

Joe Lau was King’s Ely’s top performer on the day. Daniel Grapes was the best in Year 11 and Eleanor MacGillivray achieved the highest score in Year 9.

Joe, Daniel and Eleanor all achieved Gold, as did Victoria Davis, Saffron Ewen, Isaac F, Jingyi Fu, David Harris, Oscar Hills, Matthew Larmour, Lisa Lyu, Ben Marshall, Eric Poon, Christiana Wang, Ran Wang, Charlotte Wilkinson, William Wu, Antonia Ye and Sihan Yu.

Ben Collier, a Year 8 pupil at King’s Ely Junior, sat the competition a year early and also secured Gold.

Head of Mathematics at King’s Ely, Audrienne Bezzina, said: “Our students’ achievements in the Intermediate Maths Challenge this year were fantastic.”
