Elderly and vulnerable residents in East Cambridgeshire are set to benefit after funds of up to £15,000 a year were given to support a handy person service for three years.
The handy person service provides repairs like maintenance services to owner occupiers or private sector tenants.
Councillor Anna Bailey Chair of Regulatory and Support Services Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “It is sometimes difficult to find someone to undertake many of the smaller jobs required by the elderly and vulnerable.
“Handy Person Service schemes fill the gap in the market and provide a service that can be trusted. The £15,000 per year which we have committed to the scheme for three years will ensure that our residents have access to this low cost service to assist them to remain in their own homes safely.”
The money is being given as part of a county wide initiative supported by Cambridgeshire County Council, district and city councils and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group.
