Cambridgeshire County Council has been given £2million to spend on fixing potholes and maintaining roads across the county.

The county council was informed on Friday that its bid to Government was successful and that it had been given an extra £1,933,337 for highway repairs.

This is on top of the £1,531,297 that the council was awarded back in March to help repair potholes following the bad weather.

This means the council has successfully made the case to Government that the county deserves the extra funding. In total, the authority has been handed about £3.5 million on top of the £10 million road maintenance grant it had been given.

Cambridgeshire County Councillor Peter Reeve, vice-chairman of the highways and community infrastructure committee, said: “This is great news and shows that Cambridgeshire County Council made a good case to Government.

“The money will be well spent on repairing our roads and paths. Fixing potholes is a continuous job for the authority and is vital to keep Cambridgeshire moving.”
