Littleport Independent Foodbank has seen an increase in the number of people needing food parcels this year.
As they are an independent foodbank they are able to help people in many other ways, as the cuts bite into services for vulnerable people.
Coordinators, Elaine Law and Susan Green say they are overwhelmed with the support and generosity of the community.
“We would not be able to operate without all our donations,” said Elaine.
“This Christmas time the foodbank has had large donations from the Coop along Wisbech Road. The staff wheeled three trollies to the church on Friday morning. “On Friday afternoon Susan and Elaine were invited to an assembly at Littleport East Cambs Academy for an assembly led by the Rev Howard Robson.
The students had made four models with a Christmas theme and filled them with food for foodbank. Elaine and Susan had the very difficult job of choosing the one they liked best. The winner was the reindeer.
Foodbank has been able to provide presents for families who will have very little this Christmas , and also to elderly people in the residential homes who do not receive visitors “So many local people give on a regular basis, we are blessed with a wonderful , caring community” said Elaine.
