The Diocese of Ely celebrated the ordination of 20 new priests and deacons over the weekend.

During two special services at Ely Cathedral and in front of the candidates’ families and friends, the Bishop of Ely, the Rt Revd Stephen Conway, laid hands on and anointed men and women for their work of ministry in the diocese.

Bishop Stephen said: “It is a great encouragement to me and to the church at large that I ordained 20 new deacons and priests at Ely Cathedral this weekend.

“These are people who range from their 20s to nearly 70 who have answered God’s call and who are making great sacrifices to be a sign of hope and encouragement to all Christian disciples.

“Ten are continuing ministries already established in our parishes, 10 are new but with established identities in our region.

“I welcome them all as colleagues who are joining me and the other clergy as servants of Christ and the Common Good in our parishes.”
