GALLERY: Terry ‘drums in’ the roast beef at celebration in Chatteris to mark St George

The hangover from St Patrick’s Day is behind us and once again it is the season to bemoan the lack of recognition by England for its Patron Saint, George.
However, this is not the case for former Drum Major, Bryn Clark; since 2002 he has been organising a formal event to mark St George’s Day.
This year it took place at the Cross Keys Hotel and Restaurant in Chatteris on Saturday and has done so for the past five years.
The event is a formal dinner with a military flavour. Bryn’s son, Terry, is also a Drum Major and he ‘drummed in’ a sumptuous rib of beef, which was toasted by the assembled guests.
Richard Skeggs, the proprietor of the Cross Keys, carried the beef with ceremony dressed in the tabard of St George. The Clarks have a lengthy military history with generations of their family having been Drum Masters in the Army.
The dinner was enjoyed by all with the added bonus that all proceeds from the function go to MacMillan Cancer Support.
