Scores of people arrived at the Old Palace with armfuls of trinkets and curiosities to be valued before deciding whether to enter them for auction.

Auctioneer David, who has featured on television shows such as Flog it, Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic was on hand to offer his expert advice.

The auction also included paintings by local artist Jim Muggleton, whose work hangs in private collections worldwide. The paintings were donated by King’s Ely student Lydia Sandercock’s family and the proceeds will go to the school’s charity fund.

David lives in Ely and is an Old Elean. He travels around 40,000 miles a year to attend a wide variety of charity, corporate and commercial auctions, selling from fields, shops, private houses, theatres, nightclubs, cathedrals, market squares and restaurants, to name but a few locations, and once conducted 2,224 lots in a single day.
