Inspirational individuals who make a difference to grassroots football across Cambridgeshire were recognised at an awards evening.

Cambridgeshire FA celebrated local grassroots heroes at The 2018 FA Grassroots Football Awards on October 11.

The night’s award winners included referees, coaches, clubs and volunteers who had been nominated by members of the football community over the last few months.

The winners of the Cambridgeshire FA awards were:

Tony Sumner award highest marked level 7 referee 2017-18 - Jason Donnelly

Referee 20 years’ service award - Paul Norman, Peter Allen and Chris Abbott

Club secretary of the year – adult club - Simon Crow, Chery Hinton FC

Mick north club of the year 2018 - FC Parson Drove

The winners of the FA Grassroots Football Awards were:

Charter standard club of the year - March Academy

Project of the year - Cambridge United Community Trust

Coach of the year - Phil Mullen

Young volunteer of the year - Laura Mills

Groundsman of the year - Mel Scrivener

Respect award - Tony Russell

Charter standard league of the year - S-Tech Girls’ and Women’s

Match official of the year - Dulcie Asher

Five individuals were also awarded by The FA for their 50 Years’ outstanding service to football.

Mick Collis, Don Page, Cliff Maskell, Phil Micham and Roger Pawley have worked tirelessly in a number of roles in grassroots football across the years.

Jo Bull, Cambridgeshire FA interim CEO, said: “The awards evening was a brilliant opportunity for us to celebrate the amazing volunteers we have in the county.

“We can’t thank our volunteers enough for the work they do week in, week out for football.

“The awards were a small way of saying thank you to those outstanding clubs, referees, volunteers, leagues and community projects, both from the 2017-18 season and to those who have provided long service to football.

“All at Cambridgeshire FA would like to take the opportunity to congratulate our winners and to thank all of our volunteers for their continued work within football.”

The awards were held at Cambridge United.
