Families take a step back in time at the medieval day at Ely Museum

Lords and peasants mingled at Ely museum when there was a living history day with a re-enactment group.

Visitors enjoyed an insight into medieval life with re-enactors from House Bonivant who spoke about knights, lords and ladies.

A House Bonivant spokesman said: “Thank you so much for hosting us. A really good day with some fantastic people to talk to.”

Events enjoyed by everybody included arrows, archers and armour. There was also fun activities for all ages.

House Bonivant is a history re-enactment group based in Kent which travels across the UK for a range of historically theme.

Recent days out for the historical crew include a day entertaining at Leeds Castle and also at Headingham Castle in Essex.

The next mueseum event is an evening lecture with Dr Neil Wilkin, curator of the bronze age collection at the British Museum on Thursday 27 at 7pm. Entry is free.

The talk focuses on the East Cambridgeshire torc, its rarity, how it was used and the cultural connections across Britain and Europe that it represents. It will also highlight the extremely high degree of skill required to make such an outstanding object.
