VISITORS to Cherry Hill Park in Ely say thrill-seeking sledders have rendered the park a “total mudbath”.
More than 10cm of snow fell in Ely over the last week, with the latest flurry coming at the weekend, leaving an ideal surface for sledges to make use of the steep hill in Ely’s park.
Walkers say that overuse of the hill has ruined it however, stripping away both snow and grass and leaving a muddied scar in the ground.
A dog walker from Ely, who did not want to be identified, said: “We moved to Ely from Cambridge because we knew what a beautiful place it was but irresponsible parents have let their children make a real mess of the park.
“There are chunks of broken sled and litter everywhere and I saw some using a ‘for sale’ sign to slide down the hill on nothing but mud, it is a total mudbath.”
A spokesman for East Cambridgeshire District Council, which maintains the park, said that the council had no objection to residents using their sledges on the hill.
