Around 75 acres of commercial development land has been opened at Lancaster Way Business Park.

The extension was officially opened with a ribbon cutting by Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire.

A spokesman said: “Work on the site began in October 2016 by Mike George Ltd and new surface and foul water drainage systems were created.

“The existing road network has been extended, a 3.5 megawatt power supply has been delivered as has the existing water main network and gas supply to the Enterprise Zone.”

MP Lucy Frazer said: “The growth of business within the park during the last five years has been phenomenal and a further two buildings are scheduled to commence prior to the end of 2017, creating another 150,000 sq. ft. of commercial space with the ability to host up to 600 employees.”

Paul Sayles, executive director of finance and operations for the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership (GCGP), said: “The completion unlocks much needed space for businesses to relocate and grow.

“With access to a great talent pool, long term solutions for business expansion and excellent work/life balance – the Cambridge Compass sites have an important part to play in linking and growing business opportunities in the local area.”

Harvey Bibby, marketing and development director at Grovemere Property Limited, said: “We look forward to encouraging new businesses to relocate or expand within East Cambridgeshire’s Enterprise Zone.

“Lancaster Way already benefits from a diverse mix of 80 existing businesses with 1,400 employees and these statistics are changing rapidly.

“Ely is in a huge growth phase with the new leisure park recently completed, Ely North under construction, the connection to Cambridge North train station now complete and the Ely Southern Bypass on target to be completed during 2018.”

  • With a the expansion at Lancaster Way putting even more traffic on the A142, why not provide a better bus service? There are frequent "Not in Service" buses between Ely Market Street and the Lancaster Way depot, and these buses sometimes even carry "unofficial" passengers, so why not timetable them and run a public service? It could reduce car traffic between Ely and Witchford, go some way to restoring the recently cut down 9 and 15 bus timetables, and maybe even make some money for the bus company.
