An urgent warning has gone out to people living in the west of Ely to be extra vigilant following a spate of burglaries.

“Officers at Ely police station are giving cautionary advice to residents who reside in the west of the City,” said a police spokesman.

He said those affected lived in the area bordered by the A10, Witchford Road and St John’s Road “has seen a noticeable increase in house burglary”.

In the last six days there have been reports of four burglaries - one address on Norfolk Road (yesterday), Hertford Close (22) and two premises on Longfields (19).

The offences share a similar approach, with cash and jewellery stolen.

Detective Sergeant Emma Smith advised: “We recommend that residents pay particular attention to home security measures and to be vigilant towards any unusual vehicles or individuals that might be approaching properties.

“If any members of the community have any information relating to these offences or being offered stolen property, please contact the Constabulary by calling 101.”

“Police have responded with increased patrols in the area and Detectives continue to investigate”.
