CLEARED: An Ely fitness instructor has been cleared of an alleged sexual assault during an assessment at RAF Lakenheath.

An Ely fitness instructor sexually assaulted a client after asking him to strip during an assessment, it has been alleged.

John Wales, of Church Lane, initially measured the alleged victim’s biceps, waist and chest in a room at RAF Lakenheath but then allegedly asked him to remove his underwear so that he could measure his thighs, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Wales, 52, had then allegedly sexually touched the alleged victim “without invitation”, said Stephen Rose, prosecuting.

He claimed that Wales had also tried to kiss the alleged victim who was “shocked and very surprised” at what happened.

Mr Rose said that during the alleged incident the complainant put his hands on Wales’ shoulders to indicate he wasn’t happy with what was taking place.

He later told police he felt “violated” by the alleged incident.

Wales, 52, has denied sexual assault.

After his arrest Wales provided police with a written statement in which he claimed that what allegedly took place between him and the complainant was “entirely consensual”.

The trial continues.
