It was the fourth time the Cambridge and District Classic Car Club put on the rally with co-operation from Ely Cathedral authorities, King’s Ely and the district council.

Ninety cars, from classic Austins to Bentleys, were on display at the event in the hearts of the city.

A spokesman said: “Cars present included Jaguar E Types, a 1925 Morris Oxford, a Mercedes 220 Cabriolet and a very rare Citroen DS convertible, and many cars that triggered memories in many people.

“Drivers had come from all over Cambridgeshire, from Bedfordshire and Essex, and even as far as Derbyshire. Ely had (probably) its first convoy of DeLoreans.”

All the owners exhibiting had made donations to Prostate Cancer UK and members of the public were invited to donate on the day as well.

The public were invited to vote for their favourite car, and the worthy winner was Fred Leach with his 1932 Austin 16/6 Tourer.
