A driver who killed a motorcyclist by attempting a U-turn on a busy road while returning from at an all-night rave has been jailed.

Conor Gosling, 20, of Beauchamp Close, Eaton Socon, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for three years at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday. He was also banned from driving for four years.

Gosling was driving home at about 11.25am on August 4, last year, after attending a rave in Soham, when he attempted the manoeuvre across the A142 at its junction with Northfield Road.

He pulled out of the junction to head towards Ely, but then immediately swung his Fiat Punto around – in front of a Honda 125cc motorcycle being ridden by Anthony Pinney, of Isleham Road, Fordham.

The 68-year-old father-of-three was killed in the collision.

Sergeant Gareth Williams said: “This case shows just how dangerous tiredness can be. Gosling had not been to sleep that night and his fatigue was clearly a factor in not seeing the approaching motorcyclist.

“It is a tragic case, but I hope others will take heed and never drive while tired.”
