Cashless parking meters at Angel Drove, the launch of a new car park known as the Dock and increasing fixed penalties from £60 to £70 are among the list of things to be formalised in the new order.

Also to be included is that coaches have a 15 minute drop off and collection point only, as they can no longer park in Barton Road, but instead park in Lancaster Way Business Park.

There is the formalising of the relocation of the market traders parking area and extension of the waiting time at the Grange Visitors car parking during office hours from half an hour up to one hour.

Tracey Harding, tourism and town centres manager, said: “Due to increased usage, Angel Drove car park is now up to full capacity and the provision of additional spaces has been needed for some time.

““Land has been acquired and planning obtained to create a new car park, The Dock, which will link to Angel Drove via a pedestrian route.

“The car park is due to open late summer of 2017 and will operate in the same way as Angel Drove car park.

“In March 2015 a new cashless parking system was introduced into Angel Drove car park. Currently 50 per cent of users are no using the new system and we would expect this number to increase.

“Less usage of the ticket machines, will over a period of time, result in a reduction in the maintenance cost of the machines and the number of cash collections required.

“The East Cambs (off street parking places) order has been revised to incorporate these changes and will now require a statutory 21 days period for consultation.

“At the end of the consultation period the council is required to consider any objections made and it is therefore proposed that the consultation responses will be collated and a further report brought to the Community Services Committee before the final order is made.”

The report to be discussed at the East Cambs Commercial Services Committee on Wednesday (17).
