Police swoop in suspected ivory raids in Little Thetford

Police raided properties in Little Thetford after reports of suspected ivory trafficking.

Officers from the Rural Crime Action Team were executing warrants in conjunction with the National Wildlife Crime Unit in the village.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: “They were warrants under regulation nine of the control of trade in endangered species enforcement regulations 1997, specifically suspected ivory trafficking.

“No arrests were made.”

Scientific support, riot van and three police cars were in the village as raids were made.

Posters were placed in the village from police which said: “Crime and anti social behaviour will not be tolerated and persons committing criminal act of any kind will be relentlessly pursued.

“We want to take this opportunity to reassure residents that police and partner agencies work closely together to ensure that your community is safe and that persons committing criminal offences will be dealt with, within the fullest extent of the law.

“We also understand that notification of this action may cause you some concern. If this is the case, please do not hesitate to contact us.”
