WICKEN farmer Jonny Fuller will be giving a nod to the past and the future when he launches a brand new cider this weekend.

Aptly entitled Monk and Disorderly, the cider is produced at Spinney Abbey Farm using locally grown apples.

The abbey dates back to the 13th Century and is said to be haunted by the ghost of a monk.

Mr Fuller is more used to making sausages, chops and hog roasts on the family farm but said that, as apples were the perfect accompaniment to pork, cider was a natural next step.

He said: “It’s a little something different but it’s a nice addition to what we do at the farm and goes down very well with our pork.”

The first barrel of the cider will be uncorked on March 23 at the Maid’s Head in Wicken, with live music from Akimbo and plenty of other festivities.

Mr Fuller added: “The Maid’s Head is a good customer of ours and its nice that we can support them and the village by launching the cider here. We want people to enjoy and support the village and this is a great way to do that.”
