An industrial unit on the Lancaster Way Business Park caught fire


A fire at a large industrial unit in Witchford was caused by an electrical fault, an investigation has concluded.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said a paint spraying unit measuring 40sqm caught fire on the Lancaster Way Business Park shortly before 7am last Tuesday.

The blaze also involved a pile of wood and eight vehicles which were destroyed.

Firefighters from Ely, Cambridge, Littleport, Chatteris and Newmarket were called to the incident. Among the equipment they used was a water carrier and a turntable ladder.

The fire was brought under control shortly before 9am, with crews staying on the scene throughout the day to extinguish the flames.

Investigations into the incident concluded on Thursday with officials from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service concluding that the blaze started accidentally, by electrical.
