Littleport’s Ex-Servicemen’s Club is continuing its commitment to the future with more refurbishments planned for the main hall.

It’s likely to be officially renamed too as the Ex-Services Club in the not-too-distant future.

At the well-attended annual meeting last week, entertainments manager Derek Timbers mooted that it was time to acknowledge the presence of both men and women in our services.

In keeping with the mood in the room toward modernisation, 18-year-old Callum Smith was voted on to the committee.

Callum is perhaps best known for his pool-playing skills for the club and the county.

He will be putting on competitions, and starts this Sunday, May 5, with the Stevie B Memorial Cup.

In honour of a former member of the club and for members only, all funds raised will go to the Arthur Rank Hospice charity.

Starting at 2pm, it’s £5 entry, blackball rules, race to three and the winner gets their name engraved on the splendid Memorial Shield. There’s a raffle too of course.

Littleport Leisure Centre is the epitome of forward-thinking in substance, and provision, and among its full daily programme that includes some ‘new age’ activities, football for youngsters is a popular pastime.

Nathan Mitchell and Grant Buchan are the Football Fun Factory organisers and coaches.

Call the centre 01353 373800 for info on this or other activities, or www.littleportwhatson.co.uk

Grant is also the latest head coach/manager and player for Littleport Town FC that was established in 1906.

And last Friday, April 19, they won the William Coad League Cup 3-2 v Wicken.

On Wednesday May 15 at 7.30pm in the Cambridge and District Sunday League, Littleport Rangers Sunday v Newnham Social 1st at Ely City FC play for the Mick Pocock League Cup.
