The Rotary Club of Ely is well known for its contribution to local people and groups in need.

One of the most well-known activities is Santa and his sleigh visiting a number of streets in Ely during the Christmas period.

However, it is not so well-known that Rotary clubs are situated worldwide and any member of a club is encouraged to meet up with other rotary clubs in Great Britain and worldwide.

Ely Rotary Club member, Rosemary Westwell, said: ‘It’s been marvellous having these connections since I joined the Rotary Club of Ely. I’ve been able to visit clubs In Oxford, Penzance in the UK and in Evandale and Hobart in Tasmania.

“If someone is thinking of joining the club but is worried they will not be able to make many meetings because they travel so often have no need of worrying. They can visit the Rotary Clubs of the countries they visit.”

Rosemary is pictured amidst the Rotary Club of Torrevieja in Spain. When she is on holiday there, she attends their weekly meetings held at the Royal Yacht Club in the city and enjoys the challenge of trying to understand the fluent Spanish.

She says that the members make her feel very welcome despite the language difficulty.  She often meets a member of the March rotary club in England at the same meetings.
