Wessex and Black Country flags are well known examples of flags that are accepted and loved by local people in England.

Recently, James Bowman presented to the Rotary Club of Ely his aims in gaining acceptance of a flag for the greater Fenland area.

James explained the colours of the flag: blue for waterways, yellow for agriculture and a central tiger as a reminder of the Fen Tigers who showed the great spirt of local people in days past and present.

There has been considerable interest in the flag by local businesses and there has been support from many, such as local brewers and pleasure craft owners, who proudly display the flag as a symbol of support and pride in the wider Fenland area of towns villages, wetlands and countryside.

If you would like to know more about the club, you are welcome to come to its open evening on Thursday (September 28) at the Ely Bowls Club at 8 p.m.

There will be displays of Ely Rotary’s work for you to peruse and drinks and nibbles will be provided. For more information, contact Viv Doji - vclariced@hotmail.com phone 07368229318.
