A school admin worker whose "infectious happiness and contagious laughter bring joy to everyone she interacts with" was crowned Colleague of the Year at the 2023 Ely Hero Awards.

Caroline Wren's role as an admin in the main office of Littleport Community Primary School means she is the first face people see each day.

Judges said: "She handles various responsibilities with efficiency and a positive attitude, ensuring that each day is a great one.

"Caroline’s colleagues admire her kindness, endless patience, and selflessness in prioritising others’ needs above her own.

"She is empathetic, a great listener, and always goes above and beyond to support her colleagues, showing genuine care and compassion and no job is too much for her to help out with."

After being crowned a hero, Caroline said: "I’ve never won anything so I’m very shocked and overwhelmed.

"I’m pleased that that the hard work I’ve put in has been recognised.

"It’s been lovely to read the judges comments about me too.”

The other finalists in this category were Gabriela Szigheti, of Poets House Hotel, and Alex Crow, of Witchford Recycling Centre.

This award was sponsored by G’s Fresh.

The judges said of all the finalists in the category: “The great selection of individuals that are valued by their colleagues in a variety of workplaces are always humbling to meet.

"These very valued people have had a special impact on the lives of their colleagues.

"They are very respected and admired and, in most cases, have no idea of just how much!”
